Is it true that drinking a lot of water helps you lose weight?

You know how people always tell you to drink plenty of water when you're on a diet.
I've heard a lot of talk about how drinking more than 2 liters a day helps you lose weight and reduces swelling... I'm curious if this is actually effective for reducing body fat.
Drinking a lot of water makes me feel full, so I do end up eating less, but I'm confused whether that actually helps with weight loss.
Has anyone noticed any weight changes after increasing their water intake?
Please let me know if it actually had a fat-burning effect, aside from just reducing swelling, and also how much is appropriate to drink per day!
