Will exercising alone be effective without managing my diet?

I desperately need to lose weight, but controlling my diet is so difficult. Will I be able to lose weight just by exercising consistently? I'm curious to know how everyone balances their diet and exercise. I want to learn the know-how from those who have succeeded!
