Foods that worsen cold symptoms
Foods that can worsen cold symptoms include coffee, chocolate, ice cream, and dairy products.
Coffee = Coffee makes the throat dry.
A dry condition causes a sore throat and frequent coughing. It is also not advisable to drink cold medicine and coffee together. Cold medicines and combination painkillers contain caffeine. Consuming caffeinated beverages, including coffee, along with medication can lead to caffeine overdose, stimulating the central nervous system and causing dizziness or stomach upset.
Foods high in sugar = Ice cream, chocolate, candies, and other sugary foods weaken white blood cells that fight cold viruses. When the bacteria-killing ability of white blood cells decreases, an imbalance of minerals in the body also occurs.
Dairy products = Dairy products can continuously produce phlegm and make the mucus more viscous.
Taking cold medicine with dairy products can interfere with calcium absorption in the medicine, potentially reducing its effectiveness.
If you really want to eat dairy products, do so two hours after taking the medication.
