The reason to eat less and move more

Generation MZ completely does not understand.

Just one generation ago, our country was roughly a hungry nation.

3. Lack of food, encouragement of snacks and street food, school lunch inspections

Ban on brewing rice makgeolli

Prohibition of double taxation (celebrating Lunar New Year and New Year's Day twice)

Health insurance benefits are excluded starting from the third child.

Population control measures such as excluding reserve forces from mobilization as a condition for vasectomy

Nationwide efforts to overcome food shortages

We endured a tearful and arduous journey.

The world changed in just one generation.

A completely opposite phenomenon is occurring.

During the era of 63 million people, people complained that there was nothing to eat despite the large population and shouted for them to stop having children.

However, in the current era of 52 million people, the government is encouraging people to have more children through financial incentives and various administrative measures, claiming that the population is insufficient.

In a country with an area of less than 80,000 square kilometers, a population of 5.2 million results in a population density of 520 people per square kilometer.

Furthermore, since about 70% of the land is mountainous, the population density based on the remaining area is approximately 1,730 people per square kilometer, making it the second highest country in population density after Bangladesh among countries with a roughly similar national shape.

Moreover, it is showing a clear first place among the OECD countries commonly discussed.

11. However, paradoxically, an era has arrived where food is abundant.

12. The black hole of 삼겹살 (pork belly) in the world is our country. Anyway, people eat a lot. (Unfortunatelyㅠㅠ except for some social classes) Whether at home or in organizations, during dinner gatherings, they eat for as long as 2 to 3 hours.

As if to resolve the ancestral curse of having nothing to eat and being unable to eat!~ It is an instinctive desire for human survival, so there's no helping it, but the relentless overeating has gradually reached a point where it threatens the overall health of our country.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's press release on the results of the 2022 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (December 8, 2023), the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among adults aged 19 and older was 25%.

One in four adults suffers from obesity, hypertension, diabetes, or hypercholesterolemia.

Approximately half (47.7%) of men aged 30 to 50 were found to be obese.

17. Metabolic Syndrome is characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and abnormal lipid levels.

Research findings have been reported indicating that not only do cardiovascular diseases, strokes, and diabetes increase the risk of occurrence, but they are also related to cancer development and mortality rates.

19. Although it is difficult to define the causes of metabolic syndrome simply, it is reasonable to view it as a result of the interaction and synergistic effects of various factors such as lifestyle, environmental factors, genetic factors, and the various stresses arising from an overly competitive society driven by the need to earn a living.

20. To prevent and manage such metabolic syndrome, efforts are urgently needed not only at the individual and family levels but also at the community and national levels.

The past three years, which passed like a whirlwind during the COVID-19 crisis, have become even more intense.

22. Even so, from a fundamental and broader perspective, it is reasonable to see it as a natural result of eating more than before and moving less.

23. Then, the solution and alternative would be quite convincing if done the opposite.

If you eat less than now and move more (exercise), it will be somewhat resolved.

There is no need to overcomplicate simple problems.

26. Theory is important, but practice is more important.
