I have had LASIK surgery for over 10 years and still maintain 1.0 vision. I sit at my desk every day, working on the computer and using my phone, which sometimes causes eye fatigue or dryness. I’d like to share some tips for maintaining eye health.
First, when my eyes are dry, I use artificial tears.
Disposable artificial tears contain no preservatives and should be used within a few hours, but I use and discard them within 12 hours.
Please do not use products that have expired and dispose of them.
The second is that I am taking eye supplements. I find it better than not taking them as I take them consistently.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are the representative ingredients of eye health supplements. They are components that make up the macula, the core part of the eye, and help protect the eyes from external stimuli such as intense light and various harmful factors, while also maintaining the macular pigment density that can decrease due to aging.
The third step is to blink your eyes.
What effect does blinking have? First, it helps to replenish the tears that evaporated by ensuring a smooth supply of tears. Tears not only nourish the eyes but also play a role in removing foreign substances and bacteria. It is good to blink steadily to help prevent dry eye syndrome.
The fourth is eye stretching, and I do it consistently every day.
Eyes also need stretching. "Focusing exercises" are helpful. Hold one finger about 30 cm in front of your eyes and look at it for 10 seconds, then shift your gaze to a distant object over 5 meters away and look at it for the same 10 seconds.
'Contrast movement' is also good. For office workers who spend a long time looking at monitors, eyes tend to become easily fatigued. Additionally, fatigue can lead to headaches, so proper rest is essential. To relieve accumulated eye fatigue, it is recommended to close your eyes and rest for about one minute. At this time, rubbing your palms to generate heat and then covering your eyes helps relax the muscles around the eyes and relieve tension. Massaging and acupressure around the eyes slowly can also be helpful.
When your eyes are tired, a heated eye mask is also very effective.
