Frequently Asked Questions

Check common questions first

When should I visit psychiatry?
Visit when depression, anxiety, or insomnia lasts more than 2 weeks; when stress disrupts daily life; or when there's panic, OCD, addiction, eating disorders, concentration loss, or memory problems (suspected ADHD or dementia). If family or friends notice changes, consider seeking care.
Will psychiatric records cause any disadvantage?
Medical records are protected by medical law confidentiality. There is no impact on general health insurance, employment, or driver's licenses. Some specialized job applications may be affected — if concerned, you can consult your doctor about being seen under a non-F-code diagnosis.
Do I need to take psychiatric medication for life?
It depends on the condition and severity. For depression and anxiety disorders, dose reduction or discontinuation is possible after 6 months to 2 years of stable treatment, in consultation with your doctor. Chronic conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder often require long-term medication.
Should I choose talk therapy or medication?
Mild depression or anxiety can improve with talk therapy (CBT) alone. Moderate to severe cases benefit more from combining medication with therapy. Decide with your doctor based on your condition and preferences.
How much does a psychiatric visit cost?
General psychiatric visits are covered by national health insurance, costing about KRW 10,000–30,000 for a first visit. Psychiatric counseling takes longer and costs more than general visits. Some non-covered tests and psychological assessments have separate fees.
