Dosage

As Bisacodyl, take 10 mg once daily at bedtime. The dose may be increased to 15 mg per dose depending on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals with certain diseases or conditions. For example, those allergic to this medication or its ingredients, those with acute abdominal diseases, those with intestinal paralysis or obstruction should not take this medication. Additionally, individuals with spastic constipation, severe hard stool, wounds in the anus, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing women should also avoid taking this medication. People in severe dehydration, experiencing abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting should refrain from using this medication as well. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take it. Individuals with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to the ingredient tartrazine (Yellow 4) included in this medication should take it with caution. While taking this medication, it should not be taken with diuretics, corticosteroids, or drugs that induce polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, and it should be avoided within one hour of taking antacids or milk. Children should not take this medication without a doctor's prescription, and elderly patients should reduce the dosage or take it with caution due to decreased physiological function. If symptoms such as angioedema, anaphylaxis, seizures, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or fainting occur during use, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and medical consultation should be sought. This medication should not be chewed and is an irritant laxative, so prolonged use may lead to tolerance or worsening constipation; thus, continuous use for more than one week is not recommended. Excessive use can lead to side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and electrolyte loss, and chronic overuse can pose risks of hypokalemia, kidney damage, and muscle weakness. In case of overdose, vomiting should be induced as soon as possible or gastric lavage should be performed to reduce drug absorption, and if necessary, fluid and electrolyte correction therapy should be administered. For constipation treatment, it is important to combine this medication with a fiber-rich diet, adequate hydration, and regular lifestyle habits. When used before and after surgery or when intestinal feces removal is necessary, this medication should be used under medical supervision. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container away from direct sunlight in a cool, dry place.
