Dosage

Administer 15g (30ml) rectally as sodium glycerin.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with perforation or suspected perforation of the intestine. Patients with bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract should also not use this medication. It should not be administered to patients with severe systemic weakness, severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting symptoms. It should be used with caution in patients suspected of having acute abdominal pain, or in those with inflammation or injuries of the intestine or anus. Patients with severe heart disease, diabetes, severe hard stools, newborns and infants, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant also require caution. It should also be administered cautiously to patients with intestinal paralysis or symptoms of rectal bleeding, and to the elderly. This medication may cause allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, so if such symptoms occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Gastrointestinal side effects may include abdominal pain, abdominal distension, gastric fullness, rectal discomfort, or heat and itchiness in the anal area. Additionally, circulatory side effects such as changes in blood pressure or orthostatic regulation disorders may occur. The prescribed dosages and methods of administration must be strictly followed, particularly in children, where it should be used under parental supervision. Long-term use may lead to reduced efficacy and dependence, therefore continuous use should be avoided. The elderly may have diminished bodily functions, so when using this medication, the dose may need to be reduced or more caution should be exercised. This medication is for rectal use only and must not be ingested under any circumstances. It may damage the rectal mucosa, so care must be taken during insertion, and if bleeding occurs during insertion, use should be stopped immediately. Any remaining medication after use should not be reused and should be discarded. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
