This medication is effective against a variety of bacteria, and is used to treat infections caused by several types of bacteria including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Enterococcus, as well as Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter. It is primarily used to treat inflammation and infections around and inside the eyes such as blepharitis, dacryocystitis, chalazion, conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, keratitis (including corneal ulcers), and is also effective in preventing infections before and after ophthalmic surgeries. Therefore, this drug is used for treating various bacterial infections related to the eyes and for infection prevention.

Dosage

Instill 1 drop 3 times a day. Adjust appropriately based on symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to quinolone antibiotics. While using this medication, severe allergic reactions such as nausea, cold extremities, and shortness of breath may occur; if such symptoms appear, use should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Hypersensitivity symptoms such as cardiovascular collapse, loss of consciousness, vascular edema, airway obstruction, rash, urticaria, itching, redness, and swelling around the eyes may occur, and if these symptoms appear, use of the drug should be stopped. Temporary burning or irritation, discomfort, and rarely, eye pain, redness, itching, vision loss, tearing, dryness, and dizziness may occur. There is also a possibility of severe eye diseases, such as keratitis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome developing, so if these symptoms occur, usage should be discontinued immediately. Hearing impairment or irritation symptoms may rarely appear, so caution is required. When using this drug, sensitivity testing should be performed to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, and it should be used only for the minimum necessary duration. Long-term use can lead to excessive proliferation of fungi or non-susceptible bacteria, so prolonged use should be avoided, and other treatment options should be considered in case of superinfection. For the treatment of trachoma, a standard duration of 8 weeks is recommended; caution is advised for longer treatment durations. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing soft contact lenses. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously only when necessary, as its safety has not been established. Breastfeeding mothers are advised to discontinue breastfeeding or stop using the drug while using it. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been confirmed in infants under 1 year of age, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. This drug is an ophthalmic solution intended for the eyes only and should not be used for other purposes. When instilling, care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the container tip with the eye and to prevent contamination by avoiding sharing the product. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and it is recommended to store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
