This medication is used to replenish fluids and electrolytes necessary for dehydration or before and after surgery. It also helps to supply energy to the body.

Dosage

For adults, administer 500-1,000 mL intravenously via drip. The infusion rate should be 300-500 mL per hour (75-120 drops per minute).

Precautions

This medication contains glucose, which may lead to a rapid increase in the consumption of vitamin B1 (thiamine) during intravenous administration. There is a risk of developing thiamine deficiency, so caution is required. This medication should not be used in cases of excessive fluid retention, storage dehydration, and in patients with low serum potassium levels. It should be administered cautiously in patients with impaired kidney function, weak heart function, hyperosmotic dehydration, patients with reduced urine output due to urinary obstruction, diabetic patients, and patients with high serum chloride levels. Rapid large doses of this medication may cause cerebral or pulmonary edema, peripheral edema, acidosis, and excessive fluid overload. Particularly in neonates and premature infants, the infusion rate should be carefully controlled, as rapid administration may lead to symptoms of fluid overload. There is also a risk of thrombosis at the intravenous injection site, so caution is advised. Blood glucose levels, serum electrolyte concentrations, and body fluid balance should be regularly monitored and managed. During pregnancy, since the safety for the fetus is not fully confirmed, it should only be administered when the benefits outweigh the risks. Administering this medication during labor may cause hyperglycemia in the mother and hypoglycemia or metabolic acidosis in the neonate, so careful judgment is necessary. Neonates, especially premature or low-birth-weight infants, may have difficulty in blood glucose control and require close monitoring. Rapid or prolonged administration should be avoided in infants and the elderly, and extra caution should be taken for elderly patients with weakened heart or kidney function to reduce circulatory burden. In cases of overdose, diuretics may be necessary to eliminate excess body fluids. Before administration, the patient's skin and the instruments used should be thoroughly disinfected, and the medication, when cold, should be warmed to body temperature before use. It should be used immediately after opening, and any remaining medication should be discarded. During administration, the infusion should be done slowly. Additionally, to prevent air embolism, the medication containers should not be connected continuously.
