This medication helps to replenish fluids and electrolytes necessary for dehydration or before and after surgery while also aiding in energy supply within the body. Thus, it is effective for alleviating dehydration symptoms and restoring physical strength, and is used to stabilize overall health.

Precautions

Caution is needed as vitamin B1 (thiamine) may be rapidly depleting in patients receiving intravenous injections of glucose-containing solutions, potentially leading to severe deficiency. This medication should not be administered to patients with excessive fluid or storage-type dehydration, and those with low blood potassium levels. Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, heart failure, hypervolemic dehydration (elevated blood levels), those with obstructed urinary tracts leading to reduced urine output, patients with diabetes, and those with high blood chloride levels. Administering this medication too rapidly or in large volumes may cause cerebral and pulmonary edema, body swelling, and acidification, and particularly, there is a higher risk of fluid overload in neonates or premature infants. There is also a risk of thrombosis at the intravenous injection site, so caution is necessary. During treatment, the blood glucose levels, electrolyte balance in the blood, and hydration status should be regularly monitored to check for abnormalities. The container of this medication is made from PVC material containing DEHP, a plasticizer that may affect reproductive development in animal studies, but the actual risk to humans is very low, so avoidance is not necessary. The safety of this medication has not been fully established during pregnancy, so it should only be used after carefully considering the risks to the fetus versus the benefits of treatment, and caution should be exercised during administration at delivery as both the mother and fetus may experience metabolic abnormalities such as hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Neonates, especially preterm or low birth weight infants, have difficulties in glucose regulation and are at significant risk for hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, thus blood glucose should be carefully monitored. Rapid or long-term administration should be avoided in infants and the elderly, and in elderly patients with heart failure or kidney failure, even more caution should be taken to reduce cardiovascular strain. In case of overdose, therapies using diuretics may be required to manage body fluid levels. Before administration, the patient's skin and injection equipment should be thoroughly disinfected to prevent infection, and especially in cold seasons, the medication should be warmed to body temperature before use. Opened medication should be used immediately and any remaining solution should not be reused. When injecting, it should be done slowly via intravenous route, and care should be taken not to connect containers continuously to reduce the risk of air embolism. Lastly, this medication should be stored at room temperature, and proper storage and handling are important.
