Efficacy & effects

This medication is used to replenish body fluids and electrolytes in cases of dehydration or before and after surgery. It also provides the necessary energy to assist recovery. It is mainly used for maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance and energy supply.

Dosage

For adults, intravenously administer 500-1,000mL via drip. Administration rate should be 300-500mL per hour (75-120 drops per minute).

Precautions

This medication is a glucose-containing injection, and with intravenous injection, thiamine (vitamin B1) in the body can be rapidly depleted, leading to severe thiamine deficiency. It should not be used in cases of excessive hydration, storage dehydration, or in patients with low serum potassium levels. Caution is required in patients with impaired kidney function, weak heart function, hyperosmolar dehydration, reduced urine output due to urinary obstruction, diabetes patients, and patients with high serum chloride levels. Rapid or large-volume administration of this medication can lead to cerebral and pulmonary edema, or excessive fluid accumulation in the body, and conditions such as acidosis may occur. In particular, rapid administration in neonates or premature infants can result in side effects due to excessive fluid. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, serum electrolyte levels, and body fluid balance is necessary, and immediate action should be taken if any abnormalities are detected. The container of this medication is made of PVC material containing a plasticizer called DEHP, which can leach in very small amounts; however, the actual risk is very low compared to the risks of not using this medication. During pregnancy, it should only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus, and glucose injections during delivery should be administered carefully due to the possibility of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in both the mother and fetus. Careful attention should be paid to blood glucose control in neonates, especially in preterm or low birth weight infants, as hypoglycemia can lead to brain damage and requires close monitoring. In infants and the elderly, rapid administration or prolonged administration should be avoided, and in the elderly, extra caution is needed to reduce circulatory burden if there is impaired heart or kidney function. In cases of overdose, diuretics should be used to manage body fluid levels. Before administration, clean and disinfect the skin and equipment to prevent infections, warm the solution to body temperature during cold weather, and use it immediately after opening, discarding any unused medication. When injecting, it should be administered slowly via intravenous route, and using multiple containers in succession should be avoided to reduce the risk of air embolism.
