The place that sold the most "obesity-inducing burgers" was Mom's Touch and Burger King... Which menu item was the problem?
It has been revealed that Mom's Touch and Burger King sell the highest number of high-calorie, low-nutrition hamburger products among hamburger franchises.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety regularly identifies high-calorie, low-nutrition foods and prohibits their sale in schools and reputable sales outlets.
The classification criteria are: if any of the following conditions are met—calorie content exceeding 500 kcal or saturated fat exceeding 4g, and protein less than 9g or sodium exceeding 600mg; or if calorie content exceeds 1000 kcal or saturated fat exceeds 8g.
According to the most recent announcement by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, there are a total of 117 hamburger products classified as "high-calorie and low-nutrition foods" on the list of foods prohibited from sale in schools and excellent sales establishments as of July 2024. Among them, Mamstouch and Burger King each had 23 products designated, sharing the top spot.
Following that were ▲No Brand Burger (15 locations), ▲Lotteria (15 locations), ▲McDonald's (12 locations), ▲Frank Burger (11 locations), ▲KFC (8 locations), ▲Burger & Fries (6 locations), and ▲New York Burger (4 locations).
Specifically, among the Mom's Touch menu

Meanwhile, Burger King has recently increased the number of products classified as high-calorie and low-nutrition. It maintained 12 items until March of this year, but by July, the number of designated products doubled to 23 within four months.
When considering nutritional content, Lotteria's
The "Double Classic Cheese Burger (Butter Bun)" product had the worst health impact, with 514.8 kcal, 17.6g of saturated fat, and 781.7mg of sodium per serving. The No Brand product had the highest sodium content. No Brand's "Too Much Bacon" had a sodium content of 1073.6mg per serving, the highest among all franchise products.
Considering that the World Health Organization recommends less than 2000mg of sodium intake per day, consuming this product would provide more than half of the daily sodium intake recommendation in just one meal.
Meanwhile, high-calorie, low-nutrition foods should be consumed with caution as they can cause obesity. Obesity can lead to various metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, as well as serious conditions like cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In particular, if children and adolescents are obese, there is a high likelihood that it will progress to severe obesity in adulthood, and increased secretion of gonadotropins can also cause precocious puberty.
