If you are taking prescribed medication and then have other symptoms, do you ask the pharmacy?

Actually, I didn't get to ask today... I didn't get a prescription for it, so I couldn't ask directly.

I need to take painkillers, but I can't take them because I don't know if I can take them with my prescription medication. I thought I should ask the pharmacy where I got my prescription.
