Is a cheat day really necessary while dieting?

I have been on a diet lately by controlling my eating habits, but I feel like stress is building up as I constantly have to hold back on the foods I crave. I manage my weight fairly well on weekdays, but sometimes I get an intense craving for things like fried chicken, tteokbokki, or bread.

I am conflicted because some people say that having a cheat day actually helps the diet last longer, while others say it led to binge eating and weight regain. I am wondering if cheat days are really necessary, or if it is better to just consistently maintain my usual diet.

Are there any of you who regularly have cheat days while on a diet? I would like to know if it is okay to eat whatever I want about once a week, or if it is more effective to just have one meal where I can eat freely, like a cheat meal.

I get anxious when my weight suddenly increases after a cheat day, and I'm curious if this is just a temporary change or if it's actual fat gain. I would appreciate any experiences or advice from those who are successfully using cheat days to continue their diet without stress. 😊
