Key information summary
Efficacy & effects
This medication is used to clean and sterilize the surgeon's hands and arms, as well as the surgical site, to prevent infections.
Dosage
Sterilization and disinfection of the surgeon's hands and arms involve taking 5mL of this medication, thoroughly rubbing it into the hands and arms for about 5 minutes to create enough foam, and then rinsing thoroughly with running water. For the disinfection of the surgical site, the medication can be applied directly or an appropriate amount used and thoroughly rubbed to create foam before wiping with sterile gauze.
Precautions
This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this drug or its components, those with thyroid dysfunction, patients with poor kidney function, newborns and infants under 6 months, individuals with herpes dermatitis, and patients before and after receiving radioactive iodine treatment should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with severe illness or a history of thyroid disease, and those who have had problems with kidney function should be particularly cautious when using this medication. Rarely, allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, skin rash, or hives may occur while using this medication, and if such symptoms develop, use should be stopped immediately. Skin pain, itching, irritation, or rashes may occur, and it is advisable to stop use even in severe cases. Particularly when treating burns, using large amounts may lead to electrolyte imbalances, metabolic acidosis, or kidney dysfunction, so caution is necessary. Long-term use may affect thyroid function, and in some patients, there may be a temporary increase in blood iodine protein levels. Using this medication in excess or for prolonged periods may cause a metallic taste, a tingling sensation in the mouth and throat, swelling of the eyes, skin reactions, indigestion, and difficulty breathing, so caution is advised. If used just before delivery, the newborn's eyes should be washed promptly and bathed to ensure that this medication does not remain on the skin. If symptoms do not improve, surgical intervention should be considered, and when used on extensive burn patients, adequate hydration and kidney function testing are necessary. This medication may affect thyroid function test results, so there should be a 1-2 week interval between testing and administration. Those with thyroid disease should be particularly cautious of thyroid dysfunction during bulk or long-term use. When infections are present, wounds should be cleaned with saline before using this medication, and if sudden itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing occurs afterward, a doctor's evaluation is necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution should be exercised if undergoing lithium therapy or not to use certain antiseptics in combination. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid long-term or extensive use of this medication, and monitoring thyroid function in newborns or infants is recommended. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes, and if it does enter the eyes, it should be rinsed immediately with clean water. It should not be mixed with other medications and should be used after thoroughly cleaning the affected area. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight, and care should be taken as it may corrode if stored in metal containers.
