This medication effectively alleviates allergic reactions such as hay fever and hives, and is also used effectively for pruritic skin conditions like eczema, pruritus, drug eruption, and insect bites. Additionally, it helps improve symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis. Therefore, it is widely used for these allergic and skin-related diseases.
Dosage
Oral: Administer 2-6mg of chlorpheniramine maleate orally 2-4 times a day. Do not exceed 24mg in one day. Injection: Administer 5-10mg of chlorpheniramine maleate by subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection 1-2 times a day. Adjustments should be made according to age and symptoms.
Precautions
Caution is necessary when cutting the container as glass fragments may enter the ampoule when using this injectable solution. Extra care is especially required for children and the elderly. This medication contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause fatal respiratory issues in premature infants. It should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity, glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, premature infants, newborns, and patients taking MAO inhibitors. Patients with elevated intraocular pressure, hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcers, cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, bronchial diseases, and liver diseases should use this medication with caution. Adverse effects such as shock, convulsions, blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, mental and neurological issues, gastrointestinal and urinary problems may occur during treatment, thus close monitoring of the patient's condition is necessary. This medication may cause drowsiness; therefore, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided while taking it. If taken with alcohol or central nervous system depressants, drowsiness may be intensified, necessitating caution. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should use this medication with caution only if absolutely necessary, as its safety during pregnancy has not been established, and nursing mothers should also be cautious as the medication may be excreted in breast milk. In children, overdosing can lead to hallucinations, excitability, convulsions, and in severe cases, death, thus special caution is required. The elderly should be closely monitored and administered this medication with care as their bodily functions may be deteriorated. In the event of an overdose, central nervous system abnormalities or cardiovascular issues may arise, and immediate medical intervention is required, with possible treatment for seizures or blood perfusion if needed.
