Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have previously experienced severe allergic reactions or shock due to this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients allergic to this medication or certain antibiotics. Caution should be exercised when administering to patients with hearing loss or renal dysfunction, particularly those who have previously experienced auditory damage from similar classes of drugs. Patients with liver function impairment, elderly patients, preterm infants, and neonates also require careful monitoring. Rarely, neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, decreased blood cell counts, and central nervous system symptoms may occur during administration, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, they should be reported immediately. Regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests are necessary as this medication may affect liver and kidney function. Serious skin rashes or inflammation may occur, so skin condition should be closely monitored. Rapid infusion may result in redness or pain in the face, neck, and trunk, as well as muscle cramps, so it is important to infuse slowly. Prolonged use of this medication may lead to overgrowth of certain bacteria, so if diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs, administration should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Interactions may occur when used with other medications, particularly with drugs that may cause neurotoxicity or nephrotoxicity, so careful observation is required. When used with anticoagulants, frequent tests of blood coagulation status may be necessary for dosage adjustment. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before administration, as this medication may affect the fetus or newborn. If breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid use and, if necessary, to discontinue breastfeeding. Pediatric patients, especially preterm infants and neonates, may have immature renal function that can result in higher drug levels, so careful use is required. Overdose may result in renal dysfunction or hearing impairment, requiring careful attention and appropriate treatment and monitoring. This medication must be administered intravenously; intramuscular injection or careless administration may cause tissue damage or necrosis. The infusion rate should be slow, allowing at least 60 minutes for infusion, as rapid administration can increase the risk of hypotension or cardiac arrest. Before administration, visually check for discoloration or the presence of particulate matter, and take care to avoid chemical instability when mixing with other medications. Prolonged use of this medication may lead to the development of resistant bacteria, so use it only for the necessary minimum duration and based on sensitivity testing.
