Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help manage blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. The combination of sitagliptin and metformin effectively manages blood glucose levels, significantly aiding in diabetes treatment. It is used for improving blood glucose control through consistent use and lifestyle modifications.
This medication is generally administered twice daily with food, and the dosage should be gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dosage is determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not currently being treated with metformin: - Administer this medication 50/500 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, and it can be increased to 50/1000 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time.
This medication consists of two components, each used for diabetes treatment. First, this medication may cause allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur after administration, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be notified. Second, there is a possibility of developing severe pancreatic inflammation known as pancreatitis, so symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting should be closely monitored, and if suspected, administration should be stopped immediately. Third, this medication should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, especially if the kidney function tests fall below a certain threshold. Fourth, patients with acute conditions such as acute heart failure, myocardial infarction, or sepsis should not use this medication. Fifth, administration of this medication should be temporarily suspended around tests using iodinated contrast agents, and should only be restarted after confirming normal kidney function. Sixth, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Seventh, during the use of this medication, one should be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms, and particularly when taken with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, hence blood glucose levels should be checked frequently. Eighth, the risk of serious side effects such as lactic acidosis increases when taken with alcohol, so drinking should be avoided while on this medication. Ninth, if surgery is to be performed, the medication should be stopped 48 hours prior to the procedure, and should only be restarted after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Tenth, elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, hence kidney function should be regularly monitored, and dosage adjustments may be necessary during administration. Lastly, it is important to conduct regular blood tests and kidney function tests while on this medication to check for abnormalities.
