The recommended starting dosage for initial therapy is 1 tablet of 5 mg/500 mg or 10 mg/500 mg once daily. To minimize gastrointestinal side effects of metformin, dosage should be adjusted gradually. Precautions

This drug is a combination agent used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. When taking this medication, there is a very rare but serious metabolic complication known as lactic acidosis that may occur, so caution is advised. The risk of lactic acidosis may increase in cases of impaired kidney function, severe infection, dehydration, or heart problems. Additionally, this medication may cause hypoglycemia when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, so careful monitoring of blood glucose changes is necessary. It should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or those with dehydration, severe infections, acute myocardial infarction, septicemia, etc. This medication is also prohibited for use in patients undergoing surgery, those with severe infections, heart failure patients, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. In elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function, regular assessment of fluid volume status and kidney function is necessary, and dose adjustment is needed to reduce the risk of hypotension or kidney damage. This drug can increase urination, potentially causing reduced fluid volume and hypotension; therefore, particular caution is necessary for elderly patients or those taking antihypertensive medications. While taking this medication, there may be an increased risk of genital and urinary tract infections; if infection symptoms appear, consult healthcare professionals immediately. This medication may cause vitamin B12 deficiency; therefore, monitoring through blood tests is necessary for long-term use. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, this medication should not be used, and it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when this medication is used in combination with other diabetes treatments, thus dosage adjustments are essential. In the case of overdose, immediate medical attention is required, and dialysis may be beneficial if needed. Caution is also necessary while driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur during treatment. Keep the medication out of reach of children and store it in its original container to prevent degradation of quality.
