Treatment effect for recurrent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in children.
This medication is effective against various bacteria, primarily Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis. It is particularly effective against penicillin-resistant strains or those producing beta-lactamase, offering expected therapeutic effects. It is used for treating recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in pediatric patients. However, this treatment is recommended for children under 2 years old or those attending daycare who have a history of antibiotic treatment for acute otitis media or sinusitis within the past 3 months. It safely and effectively improves infections in pediatric patients who meet these conditions.
For pediatric patients over 3 months: Based on amoxicillin content (600 mg/5 mL), take 90mg/kg/day divided into doses every 12 hours. For acute otitis media, administer for 10 days; for acute sinusitis, administer for 7 days.
This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which should not be taken by patients with phenylketonuria. Care should be taken not to exceed the daily allowable amount of aspartame, with a maximum of 2.4g per day for adults. Patients with allergies to this medication or any beta-lactam antibiotics should not use it, and patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should also avoid it. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice should be cautious when taking this medication, and patients with liver impairment should use it with care. In patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment, dosing intervals should be adjusted. Patients with allergies, those who have difficulty swallowing, the elderly, and patients in poor overall health should also exercise caution. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea may experience insufficient absorption of the medication, requiring caution. This medication commonly causes gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and rash, though liver function abnormalities, skin hypersensitivity reactions, and blood abnormalities may occur rarely. In particular, liver function abnormalities can occur more frequently with prolonged use, so prescribing and monitoring by a physician are essential if administered for more than 14 days. Allergic reactions may present as itching, rash, and in severe cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome or anaphylaxis; if symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical attention sought. Rarely, blood and lymphatic system abnormalities may occur, necessitating regular blood tests. Nervous system adverse reactions may include anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, and, rarely, seizures; if symptoms of aseptic meningitis appear, the medication should be stopped immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function may experience acute renal failure or crystalluria, thus requiring regular kidney function testing. Prolonged use may lead to fungal or bacterial superinfections, and liver function test results may fluctuate, so patients with liver disease should use this medication cautiously. This medication may interact with other drugs; caution is particularly needed when taken alongside anticoagulants, probenecid, allopurinol, or disulfiram. During pregnancy, it should be avoided especially in the first three months, and while breastfeeding, interruption should occur if the baby experiences diarrhea or hypersensitivity reactions. It is not used in infants under 3 months since safety has not been established. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, electrolyte imbalances, rashes, drowsiness, and risk of kidney damage may occur, necessitating adequate hydration and appropriate treatment. Before use, shake the medication well, and store in the refrigerator after mixing, using it within 7 days. Keep out of reach of children and store in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius. This medication is intended for the treatment of bacterial infections only and is ineffective against viral infections, so it should be taken exactly as prescribed and directed by a physician.
