Treatment and prevention of influenza A and B infections
This medicine is used for the treatment of influenza A and B virus infections in children over 2 weeks old and adults. It is particularly important to start administration within 48 hours of the onset of early influenza symptoms. Additionally, it can be used for prevention of influenza infection in patients aged 1 year and older, but is primarily used as an adjunct when vaccination is not possible or its effectiveness is not anticipated. This medicine is not a substitute for vaccination, so vaccination should be prioritized. Hence, this medicine helps in the treatment and prevention of influenza infections.
1. Treatment of influenza A and influenza B virus infections: Start treatment on the first or second day after the onset of influenza symptoms. Adults and adolescents 13 years of age and older should take oseltamivir 75 mg orally twice daily for 5 days. Adults and adolescents 13 years of age and older who have difficulty swallowing capsules should use this medicine's powder for suspension. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or greater. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg twice daily for 5 days is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily for 5 days is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should receive a 30mg dose of this medicine after each dialysis session to maintain plasma concentrations within the therapeutic range, and treatment should not exceed 5 days. If influenza symptoms develop during the 48 hours between dialysis sessions, the dose may also be given before the start of dialysis. For peritoneal dialysis, a single 30mg dose of this medicine after dialysis is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not receiving dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance below 10mL/min); therefore, no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is required for treatment of adult patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9). 2. Prevention of influenza A and influenza B virus infections: Adults and adolescents 13 years of age and older who are in close contact with an infected person should take oseltamivir 75 mg orally once daily for 10 days. Start administration within 2 days of contact with the infected person. The recommended dose for prevention during an influenza outbreak is 75 mg once daily. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have been demonstrated for up to 6 weeks. The preventive effect continues while the medicine is being taken. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or greater. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ∼ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ∼ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg every other day is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should receive a 30mg dose of this medicine after every 2 dialysis sessions to maintain plasma concentrations within the therapeutic range. The initial dose may also be given before the start of dialysis. For peritoneal dialysis, 30mg of this medicine after dialysis once weekly is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not receiving dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance below 10mL/min); therefore, no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is required for prevention in adult patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9).

This does not apply to infants with a postconceptional age of less than 36 weeks. This medicine cannot replace influenza vaccination and should only be used during influenza virus outbreaks. The safety and efficacy of this medicine for treating infections other than influenza A and B have not been confirmed. In pediatric and adolescent patients, neurological and psychiatric adverse reactions such as convulsions or delirium may rarely occur; thus, close monitoring is required for abnormal behavior. In principle, this medicine should not be used in children over the age of 10, and if used, guardians should ensure not to leave the patient alone for 2 days. Patients who are allergic to this medicine or its ingredients should not use it. Patients with reduced kidney function may require dose adjustment, and it is not recommended for patients with end-stage renal failure. Caution should be exercised when administering to high-risk patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, or immunosuppressive conditions. Common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and headache may occur, but they are mostly temporary. Rarely, anaphylaxis, liver dysfunction, skin rash, acute renal failure, and psychiatric symptoms may occur, necessitating immediate consultation with healthcare providers in case of abnormal symptoms. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should make a careful decision regarding the risks and benefits of using this medicine. The safety and efficacy for children, especially those under 1 year of age, have not been sufficiently established. Generally, elderly patients do not require dose adjustment, but should be closely monitored if physical function is diminished. Most serious side effects have not been reported in overdose cases; however, if abnormal symptoms occur, medical assistance should be sought immediately. The possibility of drug interactions is low with this medicine, but caution may be needed when used with certain medications. The effects on driving or operating machinery are not known, but the potential for functional impairment due to influenza itself should be considered. Keep this medicine out of reach of children, and avoid transferring it to other containers.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medicine should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture, preferably at a cool temperature below 25 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way helps maintain the effectiveness of the medicine for a longer time.
