Summary

Main use
Fluid control and waste removal effect in patients with chronic kidney failure
Who uses it
Adults · Children
Adult dosage
This drug must be administered intraperitoneally, with the attending physician adjusting the treatment method, frequency, and dwell time according to the patient's condition. Generally, 2000 mL is injected into the abdominal cavity 4 times a day and drained after 2 to 10 hours. Dosing should be individualized, and if there is abdominal pain due to distention during peritoneal dialysis, the injection volume per session may be reduced to 500-1500 mL. There is no residual kidney function.
Children's dosage
In children, dosage is adjusted according to age, physique, and weight (30-40 mL/kg).

Efficacy & effects

Fluid control and waste removal effect in patients with chronic kidney failure

View approved original text

The peritoneal dialysis solution is used when patients with chronic kidney failure have difficulty removing waste products and excess fluid from the body due to decreased kidney function. This medication helps to efficiently expel waste products, electrolytes, and water from the blood using the peritoneum. It plays a significant role in assisting kidney function and stabilizing the internal environment. The peritoneal dialysis solution is essential in the dialysis treatment process, used to sustain the lives and improve the health of patients.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This drug must be administered intraperitoneally, with the attending physician adjusting the treatment method, frequency, and dwell time according to the patient's condition. Generally, 2000 mL is injected into the abdominal cavity 4 times a day and drained after 2 to 10 hours. Precautions

This medication is a dialysis solution used for peritoneal dialysis, having an electrolyte composition similar to that of blood, helping to remove waste and excess fluid from the body. There is a risk of life-threatening situations if peritoneal dialysis is discontinued prematurely without receiving alternative renal replacement therapy, so caution is advised. This drug should not be used in patients with severe hypokalemia or severe hypercalcemia, those with recent abdominal surgery or injury, severe abdominal inflammation, inflammatory bowel disease, peritonitis, abdominal hernias, lung diseases, sepsis, hyperlipidemia, significant weight loss, and other conditions. Patients with electrolyte loss due to vomiting or diarrhea, those taking calcium-containing drugs, digitalis agents, diuretics, or diabetic patients should exercise special caution while using this drug and regularly check electrolyte levels in the blood. This medication is generally safe, but side effects may include electrolyte imbalance, fluid imbalance, increased blood sugar, hyperlipidemia, and weight gain. Serious complications may occur, including peritonitis, catheter infections, infusion and drainage issues with the peritoneal dialysis solution, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory difficulties, hernias, abdominal distension, shoulder pain, and rarely, encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis. Patients should immediately consult a physician if symptoms appear. Regular monitoring of weight, electrolyte levels in the blood, kidney function, and blood sugar is required while using this drug, and dialysis methods may need to be adjusted if peritoneal function declines. Effects of other medications dialyzed through the peritoneum may be reduced, so dose adjustments may be necessary when using co-administered drugs. Caution should be exercised when using this drug during pregnancy or lactation, and pediatric doses should be adjusted according to weight and physique. Elderly patients have a higher risk of hernia, so evaluation prior to peritoneal dialysis is necessary. In cases of overdose, excessive accumulation of dialysis solution in the peritoneum may occur, so avoid excessive dosing and inform healthcare professionals of any abnormal symptoms. This drug must be used in a sterile condition; do not use if the container is damaged or if the liquid is turbid. Unused dialysis solution should not be reused and should be discarded, keeping it out of reach of children. This drug is known not to affect driving or machine operating abilities.
