Precautions

This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the penicillin class and should not be administered to certain patients. First, patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to this drug or other beta-lactam medications should not use it. Hypersensitivity reactions include anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and shock. Additionally, patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should avoid this drug, as the risk of rash may increase. Patients who have previously experienced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction from this drug or penicillin should also avoid using it due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with impaired liver function should use this drug cautiously, as it may worsen liver function. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should use this drug carefully, adjusting the dosing interval, as the drug may remain in the body longer and reach higher concentrations. Patients with allergic tendencies or a family history of allergies may need to be cautious due to the possibility of hypersensitivity reactions. Patients who have difficulty swallowing or elderly patients, as well as those in poor nutritional status, should be carefully administered the drug, as there is a risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases may not adequately absorb the drug, so their condition should be carefully assessed prior to use. Possible gastrointestinal adverse effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting may occur with this medication, and in severe cases, it can lead to serious conditions like pseudomembranous colitis. Therefore, if any symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Rarely, symptoms indicating liver dysfunction may arise, particularly in elderly patients or those on long-term use, so regular liver function tests are important. Rarely, severe skin rashes or hypersensitivity reactions like anaphylaxis may occur; if skin rashes, itching, or difficulty breathing arise, administration should be discontinued immediately, and healthcare personnel should be informed. Blood abnormalities have also been reported, so caution is advised if symptoms of bleeding or anemia occur. Central nervous system abnormalities such as anxiety, confusion, and seizures may rarely occur; if any abnormal symptoms develop, a doctor should be notified. This drug is excreted through the kidneys, so patients with impaired kidney function need regular checks, and if any abnormalities are noted, administration should be stopped. The use of antibiotics may disrupt gut flora, leading to conditions like candidiasis or stomatitis; if such symptoms appear, prompt notification is necessary. There have also been reports of bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency, so patients with bleeding risks should be monitored closely. This drug may interact with other medications, especially when taken with anticoagulants, probenecid, or allopurinol, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is recommended. Pregnant or lactating women should avoid this drug during the first trimester of pregnancy, as safety has not been fully established, and caution is advised since side effects may manifest in breastfeeding infants. It is not recommended for children under 12 years old or for pediatric patients weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients are at a higher risk for adverse reactions due to decreased bodily functions, so their condition should be closely monitored during treatment. While taking this medication, results of certain clinical tests, such as urine sugar tests, may be affected, so the healthcare personnel should be informed about the medication use at the time of testing. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal failure, seizures, or hypersensitivity shock may occur, requiring immediate cessation of the drug and emergency care. Finally, this drug should be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid moisture and kept in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius. It is safest to avoid prolonged use without a doctor's instructions.
