Treatment effect for recurrent acute otitis media and sinusitis in children
This medication is effective against important bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis. It is particularly used for the treatment of recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in pediatric patients. It is recommended for pediatric patients who have had antibiotic treatment experience within the last 3 months and are under 2 years old or attending daycare. This medication helps to improve the symptoms of otitis media and sinusitis in children with risk factors.
There is no experience using this medication in adults.
For pediatric patients over 3 months: Based on the amoxicillin content (600 mg/5 mL), take 90mg/kg/day divided into doses every 12 hours. For acute otitis media, administer for 10 days; for acute sinusitis, administer for 7 days.
This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame and should not be used by patients with the hereditary disease phenylketonuria. The intake of aspartame should be controlled below the WHO recommended amount, and for a 60kg adult, the maximum daily dosage can be up to 2.4g. Patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to the components of this drug or to beta-lactam antibiotics, patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice, and those with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not be administered this medication. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function, patients with allergies, elderly patients, patients who have difficulty taking orally, and patients with gastrointestinal diseases should use this medication cautiously. This medication can cause adverse reactions primarily in the gastrointestinal tract, such as diarrhea, vomiting, and rash, and various side effects have been reported including liver function anomalies, hypersensitivity reactions, hematologic anomalies, and neurological anomalies, so if abnormal symptoms occur, the patient should consult a doctor immediately. To prevent the occurrence of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to take this medication only for the minimum necessary duration after susceptibility testing, and those with a history of penicillin hypersensitivity should be especially careful. After administration, severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur, and the patient's condition should be closely monitored, and if acute symptoms appear, immediate first aid should be provided. If severe diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs during or after antibiotic use, it is necessary to consider the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis and to stop taking the medication and consult medical personnel. This medication can lead to excessive growth of non-susceptible bacteria with prolonged use, so caution is needed if used for more than 14 days. Patients with liver disease should use this medication carefully as abnormalities may appear in liver function tests, and dose adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment. It should be avoided during the first three months of pregnancy, and during breastfeeding, if side effects occur in infants, the medication should be discontinued. Safety and efficacy have not been established in infants under 3 months, so it should not be used in this population. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if taking other medications, it must be reported to a doctor or pharmacist, especially when used in conjunction with anticoagulants or certain antibiotics. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, kidney function impairment, and seizures may occur, so immediate cessation and appropriate treatment must be administered, and adequate hydration is crucial. Before use, the medication should be shaken well, and after preparation, it should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 7 days. Keep out of reach of children, avoid direct sunlight, and store in a dry place.
