Adult dose
Idiopathic Parkinson's disease Take this medicine once daily at the same time with water. Swallow it whole without chewing, splitting, or crushing it. It may be taken with or without food. If a dose is missed, take this medicine within 12 hours of the scheduled time. If 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and continue with the next dose as scheduled. 1. Patients with normal renal function 1) Initial therapy Week 1: Total daily dose (mg) 0.375, dose (mg) 0.375 Week 2: Total daily dose (mg) 0.75, dose (mg) 0.75 Week 3: Total daily dose (mg) 1.50, dose (mg) 1.50 Start with a total daily dose of 0.375mg/day and gradually increase it. Increase the dose approximately once every 5-7 days, and do not increase it more frequently. If intolerable adverse reactions do not occur, the dose may be increased to the maximum therapeutic dose. The recommended increments based on clinical trials are as follows. If further increases are needed, increase by 0.75mg at 1-week intervals, up to a maximum of 4.5mg per day. Patients already taking immediate-release pramipexole may switch to this medicine at the same total daily dose, with the switch made overnight. 2) Maintenance therapy The dose is 0.375mg to a maximum of 4.5mg per day. In pivotal clinical trials, efficacy was observed starting at a daily dose of 1.5mg during dose escalation in both early and advanced Parkinson's disease. Some patients may experience additional therapeutic benefit at doses higher than 1.5mg. This regimen applies particularly to patients with advanced Parkinson's disease for whom a reduction in levodopa dose is planned. In patients taking this medicine with levodopa, consider reducing the levodopa dose during pramipexole dose escalation and maintenance therapy, as needed to avoid excessive dopaminergic stimulation. 2. Patients with renal impairment Elimination of pramipexole depends on renal function. The following dosing schedule is suggested for initial therapy; creatinine CL>50ml/min: No adjustment of daily dose or dosing frequency is necessary. creatinine CL=30~50ml/min: 0.375mg every 2 days, 2.25mg once daily creatinine CL<30ml/min: Use of this medicine in these patients has not been adequately studied; consider using immediate-release pramipexole. If renal function declines during maintenance therapy, follow the recommendations above. 3. Discontinuation Reduce the dose by 0.75 mg/day until the daily dose has been reduced to 0.75 mg, then reduce it by 0.375 mg/day thereafter.

This medication is used to improve symptoms in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. It is administered alone to early-stage Parkinson's patients, and in advanced patients, it is used in combination with Levodopa to enhance effectiveness. This helps alleviate motor disorders and improves the ability to perform daily activities. This medication plays a crucial role in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, so it is recommended to take it consistently.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat Parkinson's disease and alleviates symptoms through dopamine action. During treatment, sudden sleep onset or severe drowsiness may occur, so activities such as driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided until drowsiness symptoms have completely resolved. Additionally, psychological side effects such as hallucinations or confusion may occur, especially in the elderly, necessitating caution. This medication can lower blood pressure, leading to orthostatic hypotension (dizziness or fainting when standing up), so blood pressure should be closely monitored when starting or increasing the dose. Patients with impaired kidney function or heart disease should consult with their physician before taking this medication and adjust the dose as necessary. This medication can interact with certain drugs, so it's essential to inform healthcare professionals about any other medications being taken, especially when used with sedatives or antihypertensives. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, so consult a doctor before deciding to use it. It is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been confirmed. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, and hypotension may occur, thus adherence to prescribed dosages and physician instructions is crucial. Finally, store this medication away from light and moisture, in a place inaccessible to children, and do not transfer it to another container.
