This medication is used to treat pain caused by peripheral neuropathy in adults.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is to be taken once a day after dinner. This medication should be swallowed whole and not divided, crushed, or chewed. An initial dose of 165 mg once a day can be administered. After 3 to 7 days, the dose may be increased to 330 mg once a day, and if necessary, it can be increased to a maximum of 660 mg once a day at 7-day intervals. Patients with diminished kidney function should have their dosages adjusted according to creatinine clearance.

Child dose

There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17, so use is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so careful monitoring for depression, mood changes, or abnormal behavior is required during treatment. Do not use if allergic to any components of this medication. Diabetic patients may have difficulty controlling blood sugar due to weight gain, which may require adjustments in blood sugar medication dosages. If serious allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, stop taking the medication immediately and inform your healthcare provider. Elderly patients may experience dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion, so special caution is needed when starting this medication. Visual disturbances such as blurred vision may occur, and if symptoms persist, consult a physician. Suddenly stopping this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety; therefore, it should be gradually reduced following a doctor's instructions. Patients with a history of mental illness or substance abuse may be at risk for drug dependence, so caution is advised. Patients with impaired kidney function should have their dosages of this medication adjusted, and it is not recommended for patients on dialysis. Patients with heart conditions should be cautious, as cardiovascular problems such as congestive heart failure may occur while taking this medication. There is a risk of respiratory depression if taken in combination with central nervous system depressants or opioid analgesics; caution is needed when taken together. During early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformation; therefore, it is advisable for pregnant women not to take this medication and for women of childbearing age to use effective contraception methods.
