Treatment and prevention of influenza A and B infections
This medication is used for the treatment of influenza A and B virus infections from newborns aged 2 weeks to adults. It is particularly effective when administered within 48 hours of the onset of initial influenza symptoms. It is also used for the prevention of influenza in children aged 1 year and older, but only as an adjunctive treatment when vaccination is not effective or cannot be performed. This medication does not replace vaccination; remember that vaccination is the top priority. In summary, this medication is used for treatment of influenza and prevention in cases where vaccination is not feasible.
1. Influenza A and influenza B virus infections: Initiate treatment on the first or second day after the onset of influenza symptoms. This medicine may be administered regardless of food intake; tolerability may improve in some patients when taken with food. Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older: Administer 75 mg of oseltamivir orally twice daily for 5 days. Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older who have difficulty swallowing capsules should use this medicine. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or more. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg twice daily for 5 days is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily for 5 days is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should receive a 30mg dose of this medicine after each dialysis session to maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations; the treatment period should not exceed 5 days. If influenza symptoms develop during the 48 hours between dialysis sessions, the dose may be administered before the start of dialysis. For peritoneal dialysis, a single 30mg dose of this medicine after dialysis is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not receiving dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance less than 10mL/min); therefore, no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for treatment in adults with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9). 2. Prevention of influenza A and influenza B virus infections Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older: For close contacts of an infected person, administer 75 mg of oseltamivir orally once daily for 10 days. Initiate treatment within 2 days of contact with the infected person. The recommended dose for prevention during influenza outbreaks is 75 mg once daily. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have been demonstrated for up to 6 weeks. The preventive effect continues while the medicine is being taken. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or more. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg every other day is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should receive a 30mg dose of this medicine after every 2 dialysis sessions to maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations. The first dose may also be administered before the start of dialysis. For peritoneal dialysis, administration of 30mg of this medicine after dialysis once weekly is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not receiving dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance less than 10mL/min); therefore, no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for prevention in adults with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9).

This medication cannot replace influenza vaccination and is only used for treatment and prevention when the influenza virus is in epidemic form. This medication has not been proven safe or effective for infections other than influenza A and B. Rarely, neurological and psychiatric adverse reactions including seizures, delirium, and abnormal behavior may occur in children and adolescents, warranting close observation. Especially in children over 10 years of age, the risk of accidents due to abnormal behavior has been reported, and it is not recommended for high-risk patients. Guardians should ensure that children taking this medication are not left alone for more than two days if abnormal behavior occurs. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its components should not use it. Patients with renal impairment require dosage adjustment and its use is not recommended for patients with end-stage renal failure. Caution is advised when administering to individuals with high-risk conditions such as asthma or chronic bronchitis. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, and pain, most of which are temporary. Rarely, serious side effects such as shock, anaphylaxis, hepatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, acute renal failure, and neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur, requiring immediate discontinuation of the medication and consultation with a healthcare provider. This medication contains sorbitol, making it unsuitable for patients with hereditary fructose intolerance. Use should only occur when the therapeutic benefits to pregnant or breastfeeding women exceed risks, as safety for the fetus or newborn has not been fully established. Safety and efficacy for children, especially those under 1 year, have not been adequately studied, so caution is necessary. Elderly patients may require caution due to decreased bodily functions and multiple diseases, although separate dosage adjustments are usually not needed. This medication has low potential for interactions with other drugs; however, caution should be exercised when taken with certain medications that share renal excretion pathways. This medication can be administered alongside the influenza vaccine but should not be used simultaneously with live attenuated vaccines (intranasal live attenuated vaccines) within a specific interval. It is effective to initiate this medication as soon as influenza symptoms commence, and proper dosing instructions should be followed. After administration, the suspension can be stored at temperatures between 2-8 degrees for 17 days or below 25 degrees for 10 days, and must be kept out of reach of children.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is advisable to maintain storage temperatures between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
