Summary

Main use
Treatment and prevention of influenza A and B infections
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
Influenza A and influenza B virus infections: Start treatment on the first or second day after the onset of influenza symptoms. This medicine may be taken with or without food; tolerability may improve in some patients when it is taken with food. Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older: Take oseltamivir 75 mg orally twice daily for 5 days. Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older who have difficulty swallowing capsules should use this medicine. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or greater. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg twice daily for 5 days is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily for 5 days is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should take a 30 mg dose of this medicine after each dialysis session to maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations; treatment should not exceed 5 days. If influenza symptoms develop during the 48 hours between dialysis sessions, the dose may be given before the start of dialysis. For peritoneal dialysis, a single 30 mg dose of this medicine after dialysis is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not receiving dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance below 10mL/min), so no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for treatment in adult patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9). Prevention of influenza A and influenza B virus infections Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older: For close contacts of an infected person, take oseltamivir 75 mg orally once daily for 10 days. Start administration within 2 days of contact with the infected person. The recommended dose for prevention during an influenza outbreak is 75 mg once daily. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have been demonstrated for up to 6 weeks. The preventive effect continues while this medicine is being taken. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or greater. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg every other day is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should take a 30 mg dose of this medicine after every 2 dialysis sessions to maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations. The initial dose may also be given before the start of dialysis. For peritoneal dialysis, 30 mg of this medicine once weekly after dialysis is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not receiving dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance below 10mL/min), so no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for prevention in adult patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9).

This drug is used for the treatment of influenza A and B virus infections in patients from newborns over 2 weeks of age to adults. Treatment should start within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms for it to be effective, alleviating symptoms quickly to aid recovery. It can also be used for the prevention of influenza in children over 1 year and adults, but vaccination is the priority. It should only be used as an adjunct when the vaccine is not expected to be effective or when vaccination cannot be performed. This drug does not replace the vaccine and has a positive effect on the prevention and treatment of infections.

Precautions

This drug cannot replace influenza vaccinations and should be used separately from them. It is effective only against influenza A and B viruses; safety and efficacy against other infections have not been confirmed. Particularly in children and adolescents, unusual behavior or neuropsychiatric adverse reactions may occur, so guardians should observe them carefully during treatment. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this drug or its components should not use it. Patients with impaired kidney function may need dose adjustments, and its use is not recommended for patients with end-stage renal failure. Patients at high risk with asthma, chronic bronchitis, or immunosuppressive conditions should be administered carefully. Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, headache, but they are mostly temporary. Rarely, serious adverse reactions such as shock, liver dysfunction, rashes, neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur; immediate consultation with healthcare personnel is required if such symptoms arise. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should carefully consider the benefits and risks before using it. Safety and efficacy in children under 1 year have not been sufficiently studied, so it is advisable to avoid use. Elderly patients should be cautious when administering due to physical function decline and existing health conditions. This drug has low potential for drug interactions, but caution may be needed when used in combination with certain medications. During administration, prescribed methods and dosages should be followed strictly, and missed doses should be taken as soon as possible; however, if it is too close to the next dose, it should be skipped. The suspension must be stored within the specified time after preparation and kept out of reach of children.
