Summary

Main use
Treatment of influenza A and B infections and prevention of influenza
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
1. Influenza A and influenza B virus infections: Start treatment on the first or second day after the onset of influenza symptoms. This medicine may be taken with or without food; tolerability may improve in some patients when it is taken with food. Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older: Administer 75 mg of oseltamivir orally twice daily for 5 days. Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older who have difficulty swallowing capsules should use this medicine as powder for suspension. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or greater. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg twice daily for 5 days is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily for 5 days is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should receive a 30mg dose of this medicine after each dialysis session to maintain blood concentrations within the therapeutic range; treatment should not exceed 5 days. If influenza symptoms occur during the 48 hours between dialysis sessions, the dose may be administered before dialysis begins. For peritoneal dialysis, a single 30mg dose of this medicine after dialysis is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not undergoing dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance less than 10mL/min); therefore, no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for treatment in adult patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9). 2. Prevention of influenza A and influenza B virus infections Adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older: For those in close contact with an infected person, administer 75 mg of oseltamivir orally once daily for 10 days. Start administration within 2 days of contact with the infected person. The recommended dose for prevention during an influenza epidemic is 75 mg once daily. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have been demonstrated for up to 6 weeks. The preventive effect continues while taking this medicine. Patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance of 60 mL/min or greater. For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 ~ 60 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg once daily is recommended. For patients with creatinine clearance of 10 ~ 30 mL/min, a reduced dose of 30 mg every other day is recommended. Patients receiving regular hemodialysis should receive a 30mg dose of this medicine after every 2 dialysis sessions to maintain blood concentrations within the therapeutic range. The initial dose may be administered before dialysis begins. For peritoneal dialysis, administration of 30mg of this medicine after dialysis once weekly is recommended. The pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir have not been studied in patients with end-stage renal disease who are not undergoing dialysis (e.g., creatinine clearance less than 10mL/min); therefore, no recommended dose is available for these patients. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for prevention in adult patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score ≤ 9).
Child dose
Children aged 1 to 12 years, treatment: Pediatric patients weighing more than 40 kg may take a 75mg capsule twice daily or a 30mg capsule and a 45mg capsule twice daily instead of the recommended dose of this medicine as a suspension. ≤ 15 kg: 30 mg per dose twice daily; suspension (6mg/mL) 5.0 mL per dose twice daily 15 kg<, ≤ 23 kg: 45 mg per dose twice daily; suspension (6mg/mL) 7.5 mL per dose twice daily 23 kg<, ≤ 40 kg: 60 mg per dose twice daily; suspension (6mg/mL) 10.0 mL per dose twice daily > 40 kg: 75 mg per dose twice daily; suspension (6mg/mL) 12.5 mL per dose twice daily Infants aged 2 weeks to under 1 year: The recommended dose for pediatric patients aged 2 weeks to 12 months is 3mg/kg of this medicine orally twice daily for 5 days. This medication is used for the treatment of influenza A and B virus infections in newborns over 2 weeks of age to adults. It is important to start treatment within 48 hours of the onset of initial symptoms. It may also help in the prevention of influenza in children over 1 year and adults. However, influenza vaccination is the first priority, and this medication is used as an adjunctive treatment when vaccine efficacy is not anticipated or when vaccination cannot be performed. Please note that this medication cannot replace vaccination and is effectively used for the treatment and prevention of influenza infections.

Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment and prevention of patients infected with the influenza virus and cannot replace the influenza vaccine. This drug is effective only for influenza viruses A and B, and its safety and efficacy for other infections have not been established. Particularly in children and adolescents, neuropsychiatric adverse reactions such as convulsions or delirium have been reported after taking this drug, so guardians should closely monitor for unusual behaviors. It is not recommended for children over 10 years of age except in exceptional cases due to the risk of accidents caused by unusual behavior. There is a risk of unusual behavior during the course of taking this drug, so guardians should ensure that children or adolescents are not left alone for at least 2 days. Anyone with a known allergic reaction to this drug or its components should not take it. Patients with reduced kidney function need dosage adjustments, and it is not recommended for patients with end-stage renal failure. High-risk groups such as those with asthma, chronic bronchitis, or immunosuppressed conditions should use this drug cautiously. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, and headache, which are mostly temporary and mild symptoms. Rarely, serious side effects such as skin rash, liver dysfunction, neuropsychiatric symptoms, or hemorrhagic colitis may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only use it after consulting a doctor, and only if the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children under 1 year of age, so its use is not recommended. In elderly patients, careful monitoring should be undertaken considering the decline in physical function and underlying diseases. The potential for drug interactions with this medication is low, but caution may be needed when used in combination with certain drugs. When taking the medication, try to start as early as possible and if a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible, and if it's within 2 hours of the next dose, skip it. When driving or operating machinery, consider the potential impairment due to influenza itself. In the case of overdose, most reported side effects are mild, but any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Store out of reach of children, and do not transfer to other containers.
