Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy, treatment of fibromyalgia
This medication is effective in treating peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults, assisting in the management of partial seizures in epilepsy patients, and helps in the treatment of fibromyalgia. It is effective in improving symptoms related to various neurological disorders and pain.
This medication should be taken orally in divided doses of twice a day, without regard to food. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg once daily, with the possibility of increasing to 300 mg once daily within 3 to 7 days, and subsequently increasing up to a maximum of 600 mg once daily at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg once daily, with the possibility of increasing to 300 mg once daily one week later.
The safety and efficacy data are insufficient for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17, so administration is not recommended.
This medication is an anticonvulsant, and there is an increased risk of thoughts or actions of suicide during treatment, so immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary if symptoms of depression or mood changes occur. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or those with genetic lactose metabolism disorders should not take it. Diabetic patients may need dose adjustments of blood sugar control medications due to weight gain while taking this medication. If symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and caution is required for the elderly due to the risk of falls from dizziness or drowsiness. Visual disturbances such as blurred vision may occur, so any abnormalities should be reported to a healthcare provider. Discontinuing this medication suddenly may result in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety, so it is advisable to taper off the dose gradually. Patients with a history of substance abuse should exercise caution due to the potential for misuse or dependence on this medication. Patients with reduced kidney function require dose adjustments, and those with heart disease should also use this medication cautiously. Combining this medication with opioid analgesics may increase the risk of central nervous system depression, so caution should be exercised. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformation, so pregnant women should not take this medication, and women of childbearing potential should use effective birth control while on this medication. Breastfeeding mothers are advised to either stop nursing or discontinue this medication since it can pass into breast milk. Patients should check whether this medication causes dizziness or drowsiness before driving or operating machinery and should avoid dangerous activities if symptoms are present. Severe skin reactions can rarely occur, so if symptoms such as rash or swelling appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare provider. In case of overdose, symptoms may include drowsiness, confusion, and depression, and treatment such as blood dialysis may be necessary.
