This medication is used to treat recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in pediatric patients. It is particularly effective in children under 2 years of age who have experienced antibiotic treatment for acute otitis media or acute sinusitis within the last 3 months, or those who attend daycare. This medication shows effectiveness against major pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including beta-lactamase producing strains), and Moraxella catarrhalis. Therefore, it helps improve recurrent or persistent otitis media and sinusitis.

How to take

Adult dose

There is no experience with this medication in adults. To minimize potential gastrointestinal side effects, it should be administered at the beginning of meals. Administration at mealtime increases absorption of potassium clavulanate.

Child dose

For pediatric patients over 3 months: Based on an amoxicillin content of 600 mg/5 mL, administered 90mg/kg/day divided at 12-hour intervals, for acute otitis media for 10 days, and for acute sinusitis for 7 days.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and should not be administered to patients with phenylketonuria. The intake of aspartame should be adjusted to not exceed the WHO recommended limits, with a maximum daily dosage specified for adults. Patients with allergies to this medication's ingredients or to beta-lactam antibiotics should not use this drug. Individuals with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should be cautious due to the risk of rash. This medication contains lactose, so it is not advisable for patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Patients with impaired liver function or severe renal impairment should use caution as this medication may worsen liver function or raise serum concentrations. Patients with allergic dispositions, those receiving parenteral nutrition, the elderly, and individuals in poor general health may be at risk for vitamin K deficiency symptoms and should be monitored closely. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea may have insufficient drug absorption and should consult healthcare professionals before use. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions such as diarrhea, vomiting, and skin rashes may occur; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a physician immediately. Serious side effects, including liver dysfunction, severe allergic reactions, and blood abnormalities, though rare, can occur. Regular check-ups and monitoring are necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, disclose any concurrent medication, especially anticoagulants or certain antibiotics, before use. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult healthcare professionals before use, and it's advisable to avoid administration during early pregnancy. It is recommended not to use this medication in infants under 3 months of age due to lack of proven safety. While taking the medication, comply with the prescribed usage and dosage, shake well before use, and store in the refrigerator for no longer than 7 days after preparation. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms or renal impairment may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, stored away from direct sunlight, and in a dry place. Hives, severe swelling (edema), anaphylaxis, serum sickness, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, bullous exfoliative dermatitis, severe allergic reactions, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, severe skin reactions, difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, anaphylactic shock, laryngeal edema, confusion, seizures, severe neurological symptoms, acute kidney failure, renal impairment, hematuria, elevated blood pressure

Mild side effects

Diarrhea, vomiting, contact dermatitis, moniliasis, rash, gastritis, stomatitis, glossitis, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, colonic pain, acid dyspepsia, loose stools, dry mouth, candidiasis, antibiotic-associated colitis, blood in stool (rarely), itching, erythema multiforme, serum sickness, hypersensitivity vasculitis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, dyspnea associated with bronchospasm (dyspnea may be serious but bronchospasm)
