Improvement of symptoms of asthma (bronchodilation, inflammation)
This medication is used appropriately for the treatment of patients with asthma who need to use a combination of bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids. It helps effectively relieve asthma symptoms and reduces inflammation of the airways to improve breathing. This combination therapy plays a critical role in controlling asthma symptoms and alleviating chronic inflammation. Therefore, this medication is used to help patients with asthma manage their symptoms well.
Adults and children over 12 years should inhale the following doses based on the severity of the disease: - 50 μg of Salmeterol + 100 μg of Fluticasone Propionate twice daily - 50 μg of Salmeterol + 250 μg of Fluticasone Propionate twice daily - 50 μg of Salmeterol + 500 μg of Fluticasone Propionate twice daily
Children aged 4 to 11 years should inhale 50 μg of Salmeterol + 100 μg of Fluticasone Propionate twice a day. There is no useful data regarding the use of this medication in children under 4 years.
This medication takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes to show bronchodilator effects, so it should not be used during an acute asthma attack or severe exacerbation of asthma. This medication is not suitable for the treatment of acute asthma, and a short-acting beta2-agonist should be used for rapid symptom relief. It should not be administered to patients with allergic reactions to this drug or those with cardiac arrhythmias, untreated respiratory infections, or severe bronchiectasis. Patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or seizure disorders should exercise caution when using this medication. Serious respiratory reactions such as paradoxical bronchospasm may occur after inhalation, so if any symptoms arise, usage should be immediately discontinued and a medical assessment should be obtained. This medication contains two components, and side effects may occur from each of them. Common side effects include headache, palpitations, oral candidiasis, and laryngeal irritation. Prolonged use at high doses may result in systemic side effects such as Cushing's syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, delayed growth, and osteoporosis, so the minimum effective dose should be administered. It may interact with other medications, so caution is needed when combined with beta-blockers, CYP3A4 inhibitors, steroids, and diuretics. During pregnancy, the risks to the fetus and therapeutic benefits should be carefully considered for cautious use, and during breastfeeding, a decision should be made after consulting with a specialist. It is advisable not to use this medication in children under 4 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly individuals should be monitored closely upon administration due to the risk of cardiovascular side effects. In case of overdose, abnormalities in the cardiovascular and respiratory systems may occur, so immediate medical attention should be sought for proper treatment. This medication is for inhalation use only; after use, the mouth should be rinsed to prevent oral candidiasis. To prevent serious infections, check for history and vaccination status regarding chickenpox or measles, and consult medical personnel immediately if an infection is suspected. If asthma symptoms worsen or the use of a rapid-acting inhaler increases, immediate medical consultation is required, and abrupt discontinuation should not occur. During treatment, regular lung function tests and monitoring of patient status are necessary. This medication should be stored in a cool place out of reach of children.
