This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. It is effective for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It also helps treat urinary infections such as cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. It is used for sexually transmitted diseases like pelvic infections and gonorrhea, and is effective for abscesses, pyogenic infections, soft tissue infections, and wound infections. It is also applied for the treatment of osteomyelitis and dental infections, improving various infections.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children over 12 years or weighing 40 kg or more: Administer orally 250 mg/125 mg of amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium three times daily (every 8 hours). In case of severe or respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per dose. Precautions

This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients who are hypersensitive to penicillin or have previously experienced severe allergic reactions. Particularly, caution is needed for patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia as there may be an increased risk of rash. Patients with a history of liver function issues should use this medication cautiously as liver dysfunction may recur. Patients with liver impairment should consult healthcare providers before taking this medication. Patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment may experience elevated drug concentration, and administration intervals should be adjusted. Those with allergic predispositions or family histories, especially those with asthma or hives, should take caution. Patients who have difficulty with oral intake, elderly patients, or those in poor general condition may exhibit symptoms of vitamin K deficiency and should be monitored. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases causing nausea or diarrhea may not adequately absorb the medication. This drug may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, dyspepsia, and vomiting; in severe cases, pseudomembranous colitis may develop, so treatment should be discontinued immediately if symptoms worsen. Symptoms of liver dysfunction have also been reported, necessitating careful observation during and after treatment, particularly in elderly men. Rarely, skin rashes, itching, and severe skin reactions may occur, and if these symptoms arise, the medication should be stopped and the physician's orders followed. Hematological adverse reactions such as leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia have been reported, so medical consultation is necessary if abnormal symptoms occur. Central nervous system side effects like headaches, dizziness, and seizures may occur rarely, especially in patients with reduced kidney function. Kidney function abnormalities may occur, thus regular testing is recommended. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients must inform healthcare providers of any current medications. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should consult healthcare providers before using this medication, especially during the first three months of pregnancy. In breastfeeding mothers, this drug may be passed into breast milk and could cause side effects in infants, so caution is advised. This medication is not recommended for children under 12 years or those weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients may have an increased risk of side effects due to decreased physiological functions; therefore, dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted carefully. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, and seizures may appear, and the medication should be discontinued immediately with appropriate treatment.
