This medication is used to treat adult patients aged 16 years and older with chronic hepatitis B who have confirmed active viral replication and persistent elevation of serum aminotransferase (ALT or AST) levels or histologically active disease.
This medication should be taken orally on an empty stomach (2 hours after a meal or at least 2 hours before a meal). The recommended dose is 0.5 mg of entecavir orally once daily. Patients with lamivudine resistance, i.e., patients 16 years of age or older who have experienced persistent replication of hepatitis B virus despite lamivudine treatment or who have lamivudine-resistant mutations: 1 mg of entecavir orally once daily on an empty stomach Patients with renal impairment: In patients with renal impairment, the oral clearance of this medication decreases as creatinine clearance decreases. For patients with creatinine clearance below 50mL/min, including those receiving hemodialysis or continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), adjust the dose as follows. Creatinine clearance (mL/min) ≥ 50: Entecavir dose 0.5 mg once daily; entecavir dose in patients with lamivudine resistance 1 mg once daily Creatinine clearance (mL/min) 30 - <50: Entecavir dose 0.25 mg a once daily or 0.5 mg every 48 hours; entecavir dose in patients with lamivudine resistance 0.5 mg once daily or 1 mg every 48 hours Creatinine clearance (mL/min) 10 - <30: Entecavir dose 0.15 mg a once daily or 0.5 mg every 72 hours; entecavir dose in patients with lamivudine resistance 0.3 mg a once daily or 1 mg every 72 hours Creatinine clearance (mL/min) <10, hemodialysis b or CAPD: Entecavir dose 0.05 mg a once daily or 0.5 mg every 7 days; entecavir dose in patients with lamivudine resistance 0.1 mg a once daily or 1 mg every 7 days a: Use of the oral solution is recommended for doses below 0.5mg. b: If administered on a hemodialysis day, take this medication after the hemodialysis session. (Pharmacokinetic properties in patients with renal impairment: see “8. Administration to Patients with Renal Impairment” under Precautions for Use)

This medication is used for the treatment of liver disease, and there are several precautions to consider: First, when used alone or with certain other antiviral agents, there is a rare risk of serious liver issues and lactic acidosis, so caution is particularly warranted for patients with poor liver function or those with risk factors. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication can worsen hepatitis, so liver function should be carefully monitored for several months after discontinuation. Additionally, this medication is not recommended for untreated HIV-infected patients, and HIV testing is necessary before use. Patients with known allergies to this drug or its components, certain genetic lactose intolerances, and those allergic to the pigments contained in this medication should not use it. Patients with impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis need dosage adjustments, and liver transplant recipients should closely monitor kidney function. Common side effects during usage may include headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and increases in liver function test values, which necessitates regular testing. During pregnancy, careful consideration of the risks and benefits for the fetus is required, and for nursing mothers, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding or the medication. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach to enhance its absorption, so it is advisable to avoid taking it with meals. In the case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, and supportive care should be administered based on symptoms. Some removal can occur through hemodialysis. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, the tablets should be stored in a tightly closed container at room temperature, and syrup forms should be stored in light-resistant, tightly closed containers.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
