Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults and is effective as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy patients. It also helps relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia. In other words, it is widely used for the management of neuropathic pain and seizure-related muscle pain disorders.
This medication is taken orally, twice daily, independent of meals, with a total daily dosage divided into two doses. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg per day, which may be increased to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days, and subsequently can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg per day.
The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently established for pediatric patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17, so use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or actions, so if there are any changes in mood or behavior while taking this, consult a doctor immediately. Do not take if hypersensitive to this medication or if there are certain genetic conditions. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustment of hypoglycemic medication dosages. If an allergic reaction such as angioedema occurs, stop taking the medication immediately and inform a healthcare professional. Elderly patients should be particularly careful at the onset of treatment as the risk of falls or injuries due to dizziness or drowsiness is high. Visual disturbances such as blurred vision may occur, and these symptoms may improve upon discontinuation of the medication. Patients with a history of substance abuse may have a higher risk of abusing this medication, so prior consultation is essential. This medication may increase the risk of respiratory depression when used with central nervous system depressants, so caution is advised. During the early stages of pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformation, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a doctor and use effective contraception. If breastfeeding, this medication may transfer into breast milk so consult a doctor about whether to stop breastfeeding or discontinue the medication. Avoid hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery until symptoms have been evaluated, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur after taking this medication. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as altered consciousness, drowsiness, and depression may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is advised not to transfer it to another container. If unusual symptoms such as skin rash, fever, or difficulty breathing occur while taking this medication, stop taking it immediately and inform a healthcare professional.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, paleness, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, severe skin reactions, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by coughing and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound lethargy, liver abnormalities (jaundice), sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to keep the storage temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This helps to maintain the effectiveness of the medication for an extended period.
