Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection
This medication is used to treat chronic hepatitis B patients with confirmed active viral replication, persistent elevation of serum aminotransferase levels, or histologically active disease. It is particularly indicated for both HBeAg positive and negative chronic hepatitis B patients, and it can be effectively used in patients with lamivudine resistance, regardless of liver function status. In other words, this drug helps to improve liver damage caused by chronic hepatitis B and inhibits viral activity.
Adults Administer 10 mg of adefovir dipivoxil orally once daily, regardless of meals. Patients with renal impairment A significant increase in drug exposure was observed when this medication was administered to patients with renal impairment. Therefore, in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 50 mL/min, the dosing interval should be adjusted as shown in the table below. The safety and efficacy of these dosing-interval adjustment guidelines have not been clinically evaluated. Since they are based on data from patients who already had renal impairment at the start of treatment, it is not appropriate to apply these guidelines to patients who develop renal impairment during treatment with this medication. Therefore, closely monitor the clinical response and renal function of these patients. The pharmacokinetics of adefovir have not been evaluated in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 10 mL/min who are not receiving hemodialysis; therefore, no dosing guidelines are available for these patients.
This drug must be taken strictly according to the recommended dosage and should not be exceeded. Since there is a possibility of exacerbation of hepatitis after discontinuation of treatment, liver function should be regularly monitored and treatment should be resumed if necessary. Patients with poor liver function or advanced cirrhosis should be carefully monitored from the beginning of treatment. This medication can place a burden on the kidneys with long-term use, so patients with impaired kidney function or those taking other medications that may affect the kidneys should undergo kidney function tests. Blood tests should be periodically conducted to monitor kidney-related values, and appropriate measures should be taken if abnormalities are found. If kidney function deteriorates rapidly, careful consideration should be given to whether to discontinue this medication. Patients should check for HIV infection before taking this medication, as HIV-positive patients may develop resistance issues when using this drug alone. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the impact of taking this drug on the fetus, and effective contraception should be practiced if necessary. It is recommended that breastfeeding be avoided while taking this medication. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been sufficiently established. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney and other organ functions, so special caution is needed during administration. In the case of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances and other side effects may occur, and blood dialysis may be necessary to remove the drug if needed. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. The effects on driving or operating machinery are not known, but special caution is not required. This drug should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring to other containers should be avoided.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture, preferably at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way will help maintain its effectiveness for a longer period.
