This medication is used for the treatment of enterocolitis caused by Staphylococcus and pseudomembranous colitis caused by Clostridium difficile. Furthermore, when administered as an injection, it is effective against various infections caused by Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Clostridium difficile, Corynebacterium, etc. It is used for endocarditis, osteomyelitis, arthritis, peritonitis, meningitis, and secondary infections occurring from burns or surgical wounds, as well as for the treatment of serious infections such as pneumonia, sepsis, and lung abscess. Especially, this medication is useful in cases where penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics do not work. It is effective in treating pseudomembranous colitis via oral administration and serves as a treatment option for severe infections. This medication is widely used to treat various infections.

Dosage and Administration

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or its components. This medication can rarely cause various side effects, such as shock, decrease in blood cell counts, hearing loss, renal dysfunction, skin rashes, etc., so if any unusual symptoms occur during administration, it should be discontinued immediately, and consultation with medical personnel should occur. To prevent the occurrence of resistant bacteria, it should only be used for a minimal duration after confirming the sensitivity of the infecting organism, and there is a risk of overgrowth of non-sensitive bacteria with prolonged use. This medication carries a risk of auditory toxicity, so regular hearing tests during administration are recommended, and patients with impaired kidney function should frequently undergo renal function tests to adjust the dosage. When used in conjunction with other neurotoxic or nephrotoxic drugs, side effects may exacerbate, so caution is required. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this drug cautiously, as the effects on the fetus or infant are not fully understood, and it is advisable to avoid or discontinue use during breastfeeding unless necessary. Children, especially premature infants or newborns, have immature kidney function, which may lead to increased blood levels of this medication, and its administration should be approached with care. In cases of overdose, severe side effects such as renal dysfunction or hearing loss may occur, and immediate appropriate treatment is required, as this medication is not easily removed by dialysis, and special treatment may be necessary. When administering intravenously, it should be infused slowly to prevent hypotension or inflammation at the injection site, and drug turbidity or discoloration should be checked before administration.
