Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients, those with thyroid dysfunction, those with impaired kidney function, neonates, and infants under 6 months of age, patients with herpes dermatitis, and those undergoing treatment with radioactive iodine. Caution is required for patients who may need special attention when using this medication. Severely ill patients or those with a history of thyroid disease and individuals with previous kidney function issues should use it cautiously. Side effects may rarely include allergic reactions, and if symptoms such as difficulty breathing or rashes occur, the use should be discontinued. Pain, itching, irritation, or rashes on the skin may occur, and in severe cases, skin ulcers or color changes may develop; in such cases, usage should be stopped if symptoms are severe. Using large amounts can lead to electrolyte imbalances, metabolic disorders, and deterioration of kidney function, so caution is advised. Prolonged use may cause changes in thyroid function, thus monitoring thyroid status is necessary. When used in large quantities or applied repeatedly to extensive wounds, iodine can be absorbed into the body and lead to various side effects, so caution is advised. If used just before labor, the infant's eyes must be thoroughly washed and bathed after birth to ensure no residue of the medication remains. If symptoms do not improve, surgical treatment should be considered. When using on extensive burn patients, adequate hydration and observation of kidney function and metabolic status should be done, and if abnormalities occur, usage should be stopped. This medication can affect thyroid diagnostic tests, so a certain interval should be maintained between the test and administration, and caution is needed as thyroid function may change. Patients undergoing lithium therapy may be at risk for hyperthyroidism; therefore, regular use of this medication is not recommended. When used together with other disinfectants or enzyme therapies, the effectiveness may be reduced, so caution is required. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid prolonged or extensive use, as it may affect the thyroid function of the fetus or neonate, and monitoring the thyroid function of the neonate is recommended. The iodine in this medication can influence thyroid function test results if absorbed into the body. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and coma may occur; immediate appropriate treatment is necessary. This medication should be kept away from the eyes; if it gets into the eyes, it must be rinsed immediately with clean water. It should not be mixed with other medications and should be applied after thoroughly cleaning the affected area.

Side effects

Urticaria, difficulty breathing, swelling, chest tightness, cold sweats, pallor, skin ulcers and severe skin adverse reactions, respiratory distress caused by pulmonary edema, renal failure, kidney hemorrhage, anuria, severe edema accompanying increased blood pressure, anaphylaxis, shock (anaphylactic shock), confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, thyroid dysfunction (especially goiter), severe allergic reactions, severe neurological symptoms.

Interactions

This medication should not be used with hydrogen peroxide. Consult with a doctor or pharmacist when using it together with lithium preparations, chlorhexidine, silver sulfadiazine compounds, alkaline preparations, mercury-containing formulations, and enzyme-containing wound treatments.
