How it is given

Adult administration

For infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, administer intravenous injection of 1 to 2g (activity) divided into 2 to 3 doses daily. For infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, administer 3 to 4g (activity) divided into 2 to 3 doses daily. For life-threatening infections and infections by moderately susceptible bacteria, the dose may be increased up to 6g (activity) per day. When administering intravenously, dissolve 1g (activity) in 5mL of sterile water for injection and administer slowly over 2 to 3 minutes.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics. It is particularly safer not to administer it to preterm infants and newborns. Caution is advised when used in pregnant women during the first three months, as well as in patients with poor kidney and liver function, in patients with hemophilia or thrombocytopenia, and in patients with gastrointestinal ulcers. Additionally, patients who have difficulty with oral intake, those receiving non-oral nutrition, elderly patients, and those in poor general condition may exhibit symptoms of vitamin K deficiency, so their condition should be closely monitored. Mild side effects such as light headaches, dizziness, and nausea may occur, and rarely skin rashes, fever, or severe allergic reactions may arise, so if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate discontinuation and appropriate treatment should be sought. Liver function tests may show transitory elevations, and transient leukopenia may occur. In the digestive system, rare but severe colitis, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite may occur; thus, if symptoms appear, drug use should be stopped immediately. Rare respiratory symptoms may include interstitial pneumonia or difficulty breathing, so if such symptoms occur, administration should be halted, and appropriate treatment should be received. Dysbiosis such as stomatitis or candidiasis may occur, and vitamin K or B vitamin deficiencies may rarely manifest. This medication should only be used for the minimum duration necessary, with prior sensitivity checks to prevent the emergence of resistant strains and to prevent allergic reactions or shocks, adequate history taking and skin reaction tests are recommended. Patients should be monitored for a stable condition after administration, prepared for emergencies. Resistance to first-generation cephalosporins is increasing, so usage should rely on susceptibility testing results. When used with aminoglycoside antibiotics, polymyxin B, colistin, and high-dose diuretics, this medication can affect kidney function, so cautious administration is required. Additionally, when used with high-dose oral anticoagulants, it may affect blood coagulation, so patient status should be closely monitored. In breastfeeding women, small amounts may pass into breast milk, so use cautiously. Lastly, do not mix this medication with aminoglycoside antibiotics in the same syringe for injection.
