Oral hydrochloride vancomycin is taken at a dose of 500-2000mg per day, divided into 3-4 doses.

This medication is primarily used to treat intestinal colitis caused by Staphylococcus and antibiotic-related membranous colitis caused by Clostridium difficile. It is also effective against infections caused by various strains such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Clostridium difficile, and diphtheroids. When administered as an injection, it is used for endocarditis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, peritonitis, meningitis, superficial secondary infections of burn or surgical sites, and it is also used for severe infections such as pneumonia, sepsis, and lung abscesses, particularly when not treatable with penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. Oral administration is primarily used for treating intestinal colitis and antibiotic-related membranous colitis. This medication helps treat various infections, aiding in patient recovery.

Dosage and Administration

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or its components. Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with hypersensitivity to peptide or aminoglycoside antibiotics or a history of hearing loss. Patients with impaired kidney function require careful monitoring and blood concentration checks as this medication can accumulate in the body. Elderly patients or those with vestibular organ or cochlear damage should also be particularly cautious when using this drug. This medication can rarely cause side effects such as leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hearing damage, and renal impairment; any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Regular hearing tests and kidney function tests are advisable during treatment with this medication. Severe skin reactions or allergic reactions may occur; if symptoms such as skin rashes, itching, or difficulty breathing arise, use should be stopped immediately and treatment sought. To prevent resistance, it is advisable to administer the medication only for the minimum duration needed based on sensitivity testing when used for a prolonged period. Safety during pregnancy is not fully established; therefore, it should only be used during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks, and it is advisable to avoid or discontinue use if breastfeeding. Caution is needed when used in conjunction with other neurotoxic or nephrotoxic drugs as side effects may increase. In cases of overdose, renal function deterioration and hearing damage may occur; immediate medical treatment is required, and special treatment may be needed as this medication is not easily removed through dialysis.
