Key information summary
Efficacy & effects
This medication is used to relieve severe and moderate acute chronic pain, such as pain caused by various cancers or pain occurring after diagnosis and surgery.
Dosage
As tramadol hydrochloride, administer 50-100mg intravenously or intramuscularly as needed, with repetition every 4-5 hours. A maximum of 400mg can be administered per day.
Precautions
This medication may cause seizures if taken beyond the recommended dosage, so the specified dosage must be strictly followed. Patients with a risk of epilepsy or seizures should use this medication only when absolutely necessary. Long-term use may lead to psychological and physical dependence, so caution is required. Taking this medication with alcohol or certain central nervous system depressants may lead to severe sedation, respiratory depression, coma, or risk of death, so co-administration should be avoided or used under strict medical supervision. Due to genetic characteristics, this medication's metabolism may speed up, leading to unexpectedly strong effects or side effects; consultation with a doctor is necessary if there is a possibility of this. This medication should not be used by children under 12 or adolescents under 18 after certain surgeries (tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy), as it significantly increases the risk of serious side effects such as respiratory depression in this age group. This medication is not administered to individuals with acute alcohol intoxication, central nervous system drug intoxication, severe respiratory depression, significant liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or patients taking certain medications. Symptoms such as nausea, drowsiness, and dizziness may occur during use, so driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. In case of overdose, severe respiratory depression and seizures can occur, requiring immediate emergency measures, and naloxone can be used as an antidote. Long-term use of this medication may lead to tolerance, requiring increased dosages, so sudden discontinuation may induce withdrawal symptoms, necessitating a gradual reduction in dosage. Children, the elderly, patients with a history of epilepsy or mental illness, and those with a history of substance abuse should exercise greater caution when using this medication and consult medical staff immediately if adverse reactions occur. This medication interacts with many other drugs, so patients must inform medical staff about any medications they are taking, particularly when combined with central nervous system depressants, antidepressants, and anticoagulants.
