This medication is used for gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, recurrent ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also effective in improving gastric mucosal lesions such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling that occur during acute exacerbations of acute or chronic gastritis. Through these effects, it alleviates discomfort caused by gastrointestinal diseases and enhances gastric health.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

For adults, 400 mg orally twice daily (morning, bedtime) or 800 mg once daily at bedtime. 300 mg can be administered orally four times a day (after meals, at bedtime), and the dosage can be increased to 400 mg four times a day (total 1.6 g). During acute exacerbations of acute or chronic gastritis, 200 mg can be administered twice a day or 400 mg once daily. Antacids may be given as needed.

Precautions

This medication should be handled very carefully when the injection form is involved, as glass fragments may enter when cutting glass ampoules, especially when administering to children and elderly patients. It should not be administered to patients with known allergies to this drug or its ingredients, those with a history of hypersensitive reactions, patients at high risk of ventricular arrhythmias, and those with certain genetic lactose-related diseases. Since safety has not been established during pregnancy, it should be used with caution, and breastfeeding should be discontinued as it passes into breast milk. Safety has not been fully confirmed for children, so it should only be administered when absolutely necessary, and the dosage may need to be adjusted for elderly patients due to decreased kidney function. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as respiratory depression may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment.
