This injection is effective against various bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillin and methicillin-resistant strains) and is used to treat various infectious conditions including sepsis, central nervous system infections, urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal infections, and skin as well as bone and soft tissue infections. It is particularly utilized in cases where the initial infection is unclear or in situations involving fatal infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The eye drops are effective for eye-related infections such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, and dacryocystitis. The ointment is used for treating primary skin infections such as impetigo contagiosa, folliculitis, furuncles, as well as secondary skin infections and wound infections. The implant is used as an adjunctive therapy for postoperative hematogenous purulent osteomyelitis and for the prevention of local infections during bone and soft tissue surgeries. Thus, these medications are broadly utilized in treating various infectious diseases to aid patient recovery.

Precautions

This medication may have glass particles when opening the injection container, so caution is required during use. Extra care should be taken with children and the elderly. This medication should not be used if there is an allergy to this drug or similar antibiotics, or if the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with a history of hearing loss, kidney or liver problems, neonates and premature infants, patients with poor nutritional status, or those with muscle diseases should use it carefully. This medication can cause various side effects including shock, allergic reactions, neurological issues, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory issues, blood disorders, and liver and kidney dysfunction, so symptoms should be carefully monitored. In particular, there is a risk of hearing damage and deterioration in kidney function, so treatment duration should be restricted to within 10 days, and if necessary, hearing tests and kidney function tests should be conducted. Caution is also needed when used with specific drugs due to an increased risk of kidney damage or respiratory depression. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication and should discontinue use while breastfeeding. In children and the elderly, there is a higher risk of reduced kidney function and side effects, so dosage and interval should be adjusted carefully. Overdose may cause kidney impairment, hearing loss, respiratory paralysis, and in such cases, blood dialysis or mechanical respiratory assistance may be necessary. The injection site should be massaged to prevent hardening, and it is best not to administer it with other specific antibiotics. Adequate hydration is required, and it should only be used for the necessary duration to prevent the development of resistant strains.
