Can a dentist distinguish the cause of teeth appearing different colors?

A few of my front teeth look slightly yellower than the others, so I am thinking about whitening them.
But I couldn't really tell if it was just staining or a difference in my natural tooth color 🤔

Can a dentist determine whether the condition can be improved with whitening by looking at this color difference?
