Do you ask about dental treatment costs in advance?

I want to know the estimated cost to some extent before starting treatment.
They usually don't tell you unless you ask.

Usually, they just say "this is how it should be done" and perform the procedure right away, then you pay later.
Given the system, I wonder if it's just the hospitals I go to that have this kind of atmosphere...
