The Korean Society for Healthy Aging announced that it will collaborate with the Korean Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis to jointly produce and distribute three infographics to provide essential information for the increasing number of first-time diagnoses of the three major chronic diseases in the upcoming super-aged society.

Part 1 focuses on "dyslipidemia." According to the "2024 Dyslipidemia Fact Sheet," published by the Korean Society of Lipidology and Atherosclerosis in September, one in four Korean adults suffers from hypercholesterolemia, and two in five have been diagnosed with dyslipidemia.

In particular, the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia has steadily increased, reaching 24% in men and 31% in women. While awareness is improving, three out of ten people remain unaware of their condition. Treatment rates remain low, with four out of ten not using lipid-lowering medication.

The fundamental treatment principle for dyslipidemia is lifestyle modification. Consistent management, combined with medication, can effectively prevent cardiovascular disease. However, if management is neglected, the preventative effects quickly disappear.

Kim Jae-taek, the president of the Korean Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis, said, “Dyslipidemia is the most direct cause of cardiovascular disease and is a health issue that must be addressed very importantly from middle age onwards.” He added, “If you have been diagnosed with ‘dyslipidemia,’ we created this infographic to gather the information you must know.”

Kim Cheol-jung, president of the Korean Society for Healthy Aging, said, “As we enter a super-aged society, we believe that comprehensive management of the three most common chronic diseases is a priority, and we plan to sequentially expand the scope of information in the future.”

=============

I guess eating whole grains is becoming a basic thing now.

Meat rather than processed meat, but red meat in moderation

Vegetable consumption is definitely number one.
