(Concern) Medication to slow the progression of children's myopia
Through a health checkup for infants and young children, I was advised that my child's vision seems poor and to visit an ophthalmologist.
At first, I just listened passively, but when I heard it the second time, I visited the ophthalmology clinic for a check-up.
He said that my astigmatism is severe, so I probably haven't had proper focus since I was born.
I wear glasses immediately and get a check-up every three months.
However, I heard that myopia is also progressing during this check-up. If it progresses too quickly, the child may not be able to undergo LASIK or LASEK surgery later on.
They recommended using a medication called atropine to slow down myopia. They also said I should have a check-up next time to monitor the progress.
Has anyone used this before?
They say it doesn't prevent myopia, so I wonder if I really need to do it, but at this point, this seems to be the best option.
How long will I have to take the medication after using it once?
The side effect is said to cause visual glare.
Please leave a comment if you've actually tried it and tell us how your child reacted.
