Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in managing their blood sugar levels. When taken along with dietary adjustments and exercise, it can effectively control blood sugar levels. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications, allowing for tailored treatment for individual patients. This helps stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent complications. Therefore, this medication is used for improving blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg, either alone or in combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of mealtime. In patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustments are required based on kidney function. - Mild renal impairment (eGFR 60-90): no dosage adjustment needed. - Moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45-60): no dosage adjustment needed.
This medication may rarely cause severe allergic reactions; if sudden rashes, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face and neck occur after taking the medication, discontinue use immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. There are reports of serious side effects such as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe indigestion occur during treatment, seek medical attention immediately. It is advisable not to use this medication in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and it should not be administered if there is an allergy to this medication or its ingredients. Patients with impaired kidney function may experience delayed excretion of this medication, so dosage should be adjusted based on kidney function, and regular kidney function tests are important. Mild infection symptoms such as cold or headache may appear during treatment; however, severe side effects occur rarely, but if abnormal symptoms persist, notify healthcare personnel. When taken in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, and appropriate measures should be taken if hypoglycemic symptoms occur. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established, so pregnant women are advised to avoid use, and breastfeeding women are also recommended not to take this medication. Safety and efficacy have not been adequately proven in children and adolescents; therefore, use is not recommended for those under 18 years of age. Elderly patients may have decreased renal function, so regular monitoring of renal function before and after taking this medication is necessary, and dosage should be adjusted if needed. In the case of overdose, general treatment and monitoring are required, and this medication may be partially removed through hemodialysis, so dialysis treatment may be considered in cases of severe overdose. There have been no significant interactions reported between this medication and others, but caution is needed when taken in combination with cyclosporine or digoxin; inform healthcare personnel of any other medications being taken. If symptoms such as joint pain or skin blistering occur during treatment, consult a doctor immediately for appropriate testing and possibly discontinue medication.
