How to take

This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dose should be gradually increased to minimize gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dose is determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not previously treated with metformin: Start with 1 tablet of 50/500 mg twice a day, and it can be increased to 50/1000 mg. 2. For patients already on metformin: 1 day

Precautions

This medication consists of sitagliptin and metformin and is used in the treatment of diabetes. First, while taking this medication, there may be rare but serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, stop taking it immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, this medication may cause severe inflammation of the pancreas known as pancreatitis. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occur, immediately inform medical personnel. The metformin component may cause lactic acidosis, a rare metabolic complication, associated with symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, and abdominal pain. If such symptoms arise, immediately discontinue the medication and go to the hospital. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute infection, dehydration, heart failure, or liver dysfunction should not use this medication, and patients scheduled for surgery should also stop taking it for a period of time. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be performed while taking this medication, and it is advisable to periodically check vitamin B12 levels. Moreover, this medication can induce hypoglycemia, so regular meals should be maintained, and caution should be exercised when performing intense exercise. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken alongside insulin or sulfonylurea medications. It is recommended that this medication not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 18 years of age. Lastly, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects, so avoiding alcohol during treatment is advisable.
